UNITED STATES OF AMERICA REQUIREMENTS
FOR FOREIGN REGISTERED
NURSES
UNDER THE USA IMMIGRATION RULING
Immigrant Visa (Green Card):
 |
Education:
Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing or
Diploma in Nursing |
Experience:
 | It is not required by INS, however a minimum one year experience of
direct patient care in a hospital in the last 2-3 years is required by the
majority of the hospitals and healthcare organizations. Specialty nurses in
the field of Intensive Care (MICU, SICU, NICU, PICU, CCU), Emergency Room,
Operating Room, Recovery Room, Dialysis, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, OB-GYN,
Orthopedics and Geriatrics are preferred. Management and supervisory
experiences are also desirable. |
Licensure:
 | Passing either the CGFNS or the NCLEX-RN
exam |
 | A valid license to practice nursing in the country currently working |
VisaScreen Certificate
(issued by the ICHP) with the following requirements:
 | Passing the CGFNS or
the NCLEX-RN |
 | Passing the English Proficiency Exams given either by TOEFL
or MELAB that includes the Test
of Written English and the Test of Spoken English |
 | Transcript of records of High School and College attended (if applicant is
under 30 years old) |
 | A certification of valid license from the Board of Nursing in the country
that the applicant is currently practicing |
Applicants from the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are
exempted from the English Proficiency requirements of the VisaScreen.
