UNITED STATES OF AMERICA REQUIREMENTS
FOR FOREIGN REGISTERED
NURSES
UNDER THE U.S.A. IMMIGRATION RULING
H-1B (WORKING VISA):
Education:
 | A minimum requirement of Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing |
 | An evaluation of the applicants' nursing education by an institution
designated by the State Labor Dept. to determine that the applicants'
education is comparable to the U S education. |
Experience:
 | It is not required by INS, however a minimum one year experience of
direct patient care in a hospital in the last 2-3 years is required by the
majority of the hospitals and healthcare organizations. Specialty nurses in
the field of Intensive Care (MICU, SICU, NICU, PICU, CCU), Emergency Room,
Operating Room, Recovery Room, Dialysis, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, OB-GYN,
Orthopedics and Geriatrics are preferred. Management and supervisory
experiences are also desirable. |
Licensure:
 | Passing either the CGFNS or the
NCLEX-RN
exam |
 | A valid license to practice nursing in the country currently working |
Please note that the NCLEX-RN exam is the U S Board of Nursing Exam and it
supersedes the CGFNS and thereby bypassing the CGFNS.
