UNITED KINGDOM REQUIREMENTS 
FOR FOREIGN REGISTERED NURSES
UNDER THE UK WORKING PERMIT VISA

 

One of the following degrees:
    Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree
    Associate Degree in Nursing
    Diploma in Nursing

A valid license to practice nursing in the country of origin

One year post-graduate experience in one of the following areas:
    Intensive Care (MICU, SICU, NICU, PICU)
    Medical/Surgical
    Midwifery/Obstetrics/Gynecology
    Accident/Emergency
    Operating Room/Recovery Room
    Pediatrics
    Psychiatry

UKCC Registration (United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting), which requires the following:
    Filing of application forms with the application fee of 70 British Pounds
    Money Order/Draft
    Certified Birth Certificate
    Two referrals from nursing supervisors
    Transcript of records of schools attended in college
    A certificate of valid license from the Board of Nursing of the country of origin, together with a current certificate if the applicant is registered in another country or state

A strong communication skill of the English language

Nurses trained in the U.S.A., Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa,
Zimbabwe, British West Indies, Hong Kong, and China are likely to be accepted immediately for registration with the UKCC.  Nurses not trained in any of these countries are likely to be required by the UKCC to undertake additional training and/or experience in the UK or to undertake a minimum supervised practice in the UK before registration.
